Civilty... a vested interest in Secondlife?

*******************************Where we come from*************************** **************************************************************************** I came across a story a day or so ago that kinda dovetails into my recent post on civility and rudeness. My personal experience in Secondlife likely parallels most others... I found my first crude, rude person on day two. I suspect many of us understand at some level the thought that "Where there's no police car.. there's no speed limit", meaning that one can be crude and rude and when they log off there are no repercussions for their actions. Well...........Jeff Pearlman, a columnist for Sports Illustrated decided to confront at least one of his rude, crude critics... his is an interesting story. I think readers of this blog understand how I feel about those members of Secondlife who choose to never leave the "welcome areas or info hubs"... {yes, it's their Secondlife program and if they are having fun I need to shut my pixel mouth.} But in order for Secondlife to grow (and things that don't grow end up dieing) I feel we need to be more than a three D chat room. It would seem that those of us that have a vested interest in Secondlife would do well to encourage a more civil environment. I guess that perhaps one way to do that is for each of us to gently confront those who are rude. When I say confront... what I have found that has had the best response so far is I try and contact the rude individual in IM, state my feelings clearly and leave. I know, I'm still a dreamer. And so it goes My love to you all, brinda Namaste नमस्ते

  1. I remember when I joined SL over 3 years ago, there was a guy who made himself a creepy avatar and loaded an AO with all kinds of random freebie gesture animations. He and I got along. But, in general, he was out to annoy. (I'm not easily annoyed) =^-^=

That was in the Hanja welcome area. I still stop by once in a while to see what's become of the place. Even 3 years later, he's still there. (=_=)

There are people who find their niche or clique and stick with it and there are others who are unsatisfied with seeing the exact same thing each and every day. To each, their own. (^_^)y

  2. Brinda some people are just openly rude to get attention, I love it when people are rude because they have something worthwhile to say or point out...but being rude just for attention, the "hello Im here..I have nothing worthy to say...but Im going to insult you and everyone just so I get noticed.." is pathetic and childish, and when at today's show we had such a person who should have known better...the only thing it did, is show how juvenile thoughtless and banal he really was...I didn't have to say anything ...the other 39 people in the audience made fun of his comment, and said other things to try and support the show. IF you are going to be rude, let it count for something...have something to offer, otherwise go home and grow up! even Teens have more to offer than that.
